Why Berkat Advisory
What makes considered family law counsel different in practice
The distinctions that matter most in family law are not always found in credentials or firm size — they are found in how each engagement is actually conducted.

Six things clients tell us they value
Specialist practitioners only
Every team member works exclusively in family law — not as one practice area among several.
Civil and Syariah competence
The team holds working depth in both legal frameworks — relevant for many Malaysian families.
Documented confidentiality protocol
Our privacy approach is written, reviewed regularly, and explained to every client at the outset.
Written options note after each session
No important decision rests solely on memory. Clients receive a considered written summary to read at home.
Fixed, transparent session fees
All service fees are stated clearly before any engagement begins. No hidden charges.
Pace set by the client
We do not apply pressure to proceed. You move forward when you are ready, and we adjust accordingly.
Expertise
Deep specialisation, not general practice
Family law is a demanding discipline that changes in response to court decisions, legislative amendments, and shifts in judicial approach. Practitioners who divide their attention across commercial, criminal, and family work cannot maintain the same depth as those whose practice is entirely within one field.
At Berkat Advisory, the entire chambers is dedicated to family law. Senior practitioners have over a decade of direct experience. That specialisation means clients receive advice grounded in current practice — not a general legal education applied to family circumstances.
Family law practice exclusively — no dilution across unrelated areas
Principal counsel with fifteen years' family law experience
Regular CPD with a family law focus — current on legislative and judicial developments
Dual framework competence: civil and Syariah family law in Malaysia
First session in a private room — no shared waiting areas for sensitive matters
Written summary provided following all consultation sessions
Responses to client queries typically within one working day
Client wellbeing held as a standing consideration, not an afterthought
Client Service
Care that is visible in the details
Many legal services are competent but impersonal. The experience of consulting about a separation or custody arrangement requires something different — an environment where the person feels heard, where the pace is humane, and where the advice is given in plain language rather than legal shorthand.
Berkat Advisory's service approach is built around these needs. We treat each engagement as involving a person in a difficult chapter, not a matter to be processed efficiently.
Pricing
Transparent fees, clearly stated in advance
Family law can carry significant financial uncertainty. Clients who do not know what they will be charged — or who receive bills that bear no clear relationship to what was discussed — face an additional source of stress at an already difficult time.
Berkat Advisory publishes its fees openly. The initial consultation (RM 265), the settlement and mediation engagement (RM 715), and the stewardship retainer (RM 1,405) are all fixed and stated before any session begins. Clients know precisely what they are committing to.
All fees stated before any engagement begins
No hidden charges or administration fees on top of stated amounts
Initial consultation fee does not commit you to any further engagement
Retainer fee structured to reflect genuine long-term value

What Sets Us Apart
Distinctive features of our practice
Written Options Note — Standard Practice
After every initial consultation, clients receive a clear written note outlining the options available, the relevant legal framework, and the likely paths forward. This practice is part of every initial session — not an add-on or an upgrade.
The Stewardship Retainer Model
Few family law chambers offer a genuine long-term advisory relationship. Our stewardship retainer is designed for the reality that many family circumstances — custody, estate, blended families — evolve over years, not months, and benefit from continuity of counsel.
Dual Framework in a Single Engagement
For Malaysian families where both civil and Syariah law are relevant — a common occurrence — we can address both frameworks within a single engagement, without requiring clients to seek separate representation for each jurisdiction.
A Pace Suited to the Circumstances
We do not operate a high-throughput model. The number of active client matters is kept to a level that allows each to be handled with proper attention. Clients are not hurried through a process designed around our convenience rather than their needs.
